TravelMed service allows subscribers or their attending physician access to personal emergency medical information whenever and wherever it is needed. Subscribers are able to have their emergency medical information held at a secure site such that, with a phone call, it can be available by fax or email when an emergency medical situation rises. The availability of this service allows subscribers to ensure that essential personal medical information can always be available to healthcare providers to improve patient care in emergency situations where the information would otherwise not be available.

Subscribers establish TravelMed service by completing a proprietary triage form. This information is safely kept using a bank of computers that is not connected to the Internet. The information is secured in two redundant sites in the United States and overseen by human operators 24/7. Subscribers are provided with a card that explains their participation in the program along with a personal identification code. In the event of an emergency situation, the subscriber or healthcare provider can call a toll-free number to reach the TravelMed call center, which operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week and 365 days/year.

After providing the subscriber's personal identification code, trained TravelMed operators immediately verify the location of the caller and provide the information that has been stored in the TravelMed database. The information is provided via fax or e-mail. Subscribers also have the option of having information stored on a computer disk for an additional charge. After every request for triage information is sent, trained TravelMed staff follow up with a call to family, friends, or primary physician as pre-designated by the subscriber to inform these contacts of the medical event. Staff will also provide an additional follow-up call to the subscriber upon discharge from the healthcare facility to monitor the subscriber's needs.
